July 2009

July/August 2009
I am almost packed and ready to return to Rwanda on Sunday. Thanks to all our supporters, especially in South Cumbria, we have raised enough money to complete the house boundary and prepare the ground for toilets and new kitchen. I am hopeful about a contact in Kigali Institute of Science Technology about a project on eco-toilets. Fingers crossed we will be suitable partners to develop this scheme which is relatively new in Rwanda.

Ben and Dan have completed their astonishing trek in the Pyrennees, they are now nursing sore knees and other injuries ……. but I hope they think it has been a worthwhile adventure – certainly the funds raised will help us towards completing our kitchen and toilet - building plans.

Thank you very much everyone, I have been very relieved to see that, in spite of the credit crunch, people are prepared to support us. As I say often, we cannot do anything without financial support.

By now, Brittney has begun her very well-earned break as she travels around Europe, before returning to Canada and resuming her studies.

I know the children will miss her greatly now, as they had a wonderful time with her in Primary 2. Those children are now awaiting the arrival of Karen from the USA, who is going to be working with them, and who will be arriving very soon.

I am sure the community will have given Brittney a great send-off. I think that they have a growing awareness of just how lucky we are to have so many people who have given freely of their time to help us. We are also looking forward to the return of Andrea and the resumption of English classes.

For me, I have lots of meeting to arrange, future plans to discuss, buildings to plan and supervise, so I shall be busy! I shall be thinking of you all as autumn approaches, I really do miss that seasonal change, but I have enjoyed a good summer in my garden, and I am happy for that.

And so now I wish you all good health, peace and happiness for the rest of 2009 and thank you very much on behalf of the Kinamba Community. Till next time, Meg
